The potential for interactivity and Augmented Reality to support and enhance diagnosis and assessment of cognitive behaviour represents a cutting edge in the development of meaningful applications of emerging technology. AR gives us the ability to construct and control environments that exactly match a set of test parameters in a flexible and time efficient way.
We were approached by Cog-Neuro to work with them on the production of an speech responsive augmented reality tool to assess the effect of speech and cognitive behaviour in patients who had experienced strokes, head trauma, or the initial effects of dementia. The app created is designed to work in conjunction with specialised speech therapists, providing a standalone assessment of various linguistic functions. By placing an AI controlled animal into the patients surrounding with augmented reality and harnessing the custom built in speech recognition system it is able to gather and submit data on patient responses to specific tasks. This was underpinned by cloud based AI systems which made it possible to provide augmented realitycontent with independent machine learning behaviour, voice recognition, and dynamic content analysis.
The initial version of this app is undergoing field trials currently and is set for full public release later this year.
