<p>We&#8217;ve just completed our first job for the Children&#8217;s Commissioner for Wales. Having approached us for an order for apparel for upcoming events we were pleased to hand over delivery of T-shirts and Polo Shirts in brilliant red, with our own bi-lingual take on the the work that the Commissioner does.</p>

<p>Based on the successful completion of the <a href="http://www.pdronline.co.uk" target="_blank">PDR</a> website for UWIC, Sugar CS was asked to undertake a brochure site for the Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre (CLEC)&#8217;s &#8217;20 Twenty Leadership Programme&#8217;, based out of their Colchester Avenue campus.</p>

<p>Our role was to produce a website that would compliment the existing literature and add functionality, including an online registration form.</p>
<p>We&#8217;re so excited to see another site go live, and what&#8217;s more our customer is really pleased with the result.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>During the spring of 2009 Sugar Creative Studio was commissioned to produce a new corporate identity for a local heavy industry service firm call Applied Torque. Here&#8217;s the result.</p>

<p>After several consultations with Applied Torque, we were able to them produce a set of conceptual logos for them to consider. Once we had feedback on the concepts we then produced a single working concept which became the new identity for Applied Torque and its online shop Tools 4 Torque.</p>
<p>Since then Sugar CS has been commissioned to produce two websites for the company as well as a set of stationery for office use and order fulfillment.</p>
<p>Here are some concepts that didn&#8217;t make the grade.</p>

<p><span id="more-342"></span>The reason why we are so excited about this one in particular is that they have decided to embrace a relatively new technology and one that is rarely seen here in the UK. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code">QR Barcode</a> Marketing.</p>

<p><strong>Mobile Phone Barcodes</strong></p>
<p>QR Barcodes are extremely popular in Japan and the Far East. They are seen in newspapers, reciepts, magazines etc. Once again the UK and the  US were a little slower embracing this techonology but we are finally catching up&#8230;.</p>
<p><strong>What are they and whats the point?</strong></p>
<p>Users with a camera phone (iphone, nokia etc) equipped with the correct reader software can scan the image of the QR Code causing the phone&#8217;s browser to launch and redirect directly to an online location.</p>
<p>You might be asking yourself about now, “Will people bother to actually do that?” Well the short answer is – people already do, lots of them in fact. In Japan, for example, QR codes have become part of everyday life, available on everything from business cards, <a href="http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/tokuon/imgs/8/9/89f2a54b.jpg">id cards</a>, <a href="http://www.hypulp.com/entries/images/KICX0928.jpg">magazines</a>, newspapers, flyers, <a href="http://www.japantimes.co.jp/images/photos2005/nn20051027f1a.jpg">posters</a>, stickers,  web sites, <a href="http://minnamyy.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/4969_image140jpg.jpg">billboards</a>,  CDs, sweets, <a href="http://www.m-creates.co.jp/PageMill_Images/QR_code_projc./QR_test1.jpg">coffee cups</a>, <a href="http://www.hypulp.com/entries/images/KICX0981.jpg">advertising</a>, and concert tickets.</p>
<p>Barcodes can be used for a whole host of different marketing applications</p>
<p><strong>These applications include:</strong></p>

<li>delivering product or tourist information</li>
<li>linking “lost pet” flyers to contact forms</li>
<li>dating &#8211; use your imagination on that one</li>

<li>connecting geocachers to mobile logbooks</li>
<li>creating museum exhibits and street tours</li>
<li>building scavenger hunts or “collect-them-all” games</li>
<li>downloading ringtones, music, wallpapers or video (think indie artists)</li>
<li>ticket sales for clubs</li>
<li>directing people to your mobile site and/or storefront</li>
<li>enabling mobile sales from catalogs or flyers</li>

<p>On the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Beverly Glen Blvd, Audi has put up some billboards showing the all new Audi A4 along with the headline: “Your move, BMW”. Santa Monica BMW, a local dealership, took on the challenge and entered a virtual chess game ….of course, with cars rather than pawns, kings or queens. Well done to local advertising agency <a href="http://juggernautadvertising.com/">Juggernaut Advertising</a> for the winning move.</p>
<p>BMW won that one then!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>PepsiCo Americas Beverages have learnt a very expensive lesson of late. The famous Tropicana branding and packaging featuring an orange with a straw was redesigned and repositioned in the marketplace early January. Since then they have been unundated with letters, emails and telephone calls begging for the design to be scrapped in favour of the classic look.</p>

<p>“Do any of these package-design people actually shop for orange juice?” the writer of one e-mail message asked rhetorically. “Because I do, and the new cartons stink.”</p>
<p>Such attention is becoming increasingly common as interactive technologies enable consumers to rapidly convey opinions to marketers.</p>
