Transparent Screens, Stretchable screens, 3d screens….its coming! (eventually)

This is an “Experience Video” that shows a normal day in a couple of years when all these technologies are affordable enough to be used everywhere. This video is the result of an experiment with open innovation, read more about the experiment here.

“Capacitive screens has now become a commodity for touch screen devices. Screen technology is now taking the next leap and the coming years imagination is the only thing stopping us. We will soon have dual screens, malleable screens, screens built into wifi connected mirrors, desks or backside of gadgets clothed with e-ink screens, tactile feedback, color screens with great contrast in sunlight, holographics/stereoscopic screens, color e-ink touch screens, or screens actually knowing where they are in relation to other screens thanks to ultrasonic emitters and microphones.”

This bus stop advertisement by Amnesty was put up in Hamburg, Germany, and what makes it interesting is the fact that it’s an interactive poster which uses eye tracking camera.

When no one looks directly at the poster, it displays a typical scene of domestic issue.

And when a passer-by looks at the poster directly, the ‘eye tracking’ camera registers the people looking directly at the poster and the image changes into a photo of the same couple pretending to be happy…

I would be interested to see how this works in practice on a busy day etc..but in theory its a genius idea!

Way more impressive that the laughable late release of MMS and Cut n Paste for the iPhone at the WWDC yesterday was the awesome Apple App Wall on display. A grid of 20 HQ cinema display monitors all loaded up with the icons for iPhone applications available at the Apple App Store. The really impressive bit is that when someone bought an app, it pulsed in realtime on the screen creating a water ripple effect across all of the displays. Take a look at the video below, the colours are muted but the effect is still impressive!

btw. Im very annoyed that 02 are refusing to pass on the offer of a cheap 3G iPhone to us UK customers. I may just have converted.
